jewellery A separate shopping list should me made for the bride and the groom individually, which would comprise of their clothes, jewellery, cosmetics and other personal items. Then a separate list should be drawn out for the gifts to be given to the relatives. Also, find out from friends and family, which stores give discount if you buy in bulk. These are just some of the guidelines required for some smart, intelligent wedding shopping.

As we observe that the Indian weddings symbolize the tie of two souls further of the two families. In fact, the wedding ceremonies and rituals display a full show of this emotion and involve as many relatives and friends apart from the immediate family with full zest. Bride`s DresesMost of the Indian weddings involve exchange of gifts from the bride`s families to the groom`s families and vice versa, it becomes very important to understand each one`s choice before gifting. However, every community in India follows certain typical theme of colors and gifts. Though these gifts are mostly of the fixed kind, there has are changes observed with changing times. From the old times, marriage shopping is considered a big task. Previously, the shopping used to start on a auspicious day and was avoided on certain days of the month. Even today, marriage shopping is considered a big ritual and is looked at as a strenuous task rather than an enjoyment. However, today, since it is easier for the bride and the groom as well as their families to mix together easily and communicate on a lighter mode rather than formal, it is observed that the shopping spree is decided on a convenient day and is done together if both the families are in the same city. At least the immediate families are considered to go together to shop for each other so that the choices are considered. Alternatively, a budget is shared between both families and the families are free to go along and shop for themselves. The groom and the bride are free to meet before marriage and spend time so they are allowed to go out together and shop their own things with mutual consent and without any elders pressurizing their choices.

Certain tips for the marriage shopping would help like:

  • One should have a budget for the shopping.

  • One should make a list of items to buy for the bride, groom and relatives and family members.

  • The bride should have separate list, which includes items needed exclusively for her.

  • Likewise, the groom too should have a separate list

  • A list of gift items for the relatives, party, return gifts and other family members shousl be prepared well in advance.

  • After the shopping is over a list of items bought should be kept so that to maintain a record of how much is spent on shopping and later on to compare it with the budget allotted for total shopping.
