Marriage across the cultures in India is considered to be a sacred union since the ancient times. Though there had been a considerable change in the sense and presentation with time, the significance has continued to remain even in the modern days. Due to social and political changes, a lot of harmful and anti social activities started getting involved into the practices of marriage. Customs like Sati, Dowry and child marriage started occupying a major part of marriage deals. Social reformers tried to remove these wrong doings from the society, fought against cleaning these mal customs from the blessed knot. Though these customs sure were gone from the society, there came the need for making rules and applying some legal acts to diminish them completely. While making these laws Indian customs, traditions and beliefs were taken into consideration to have it apply more wide range. There are certain laws like Hindu Law, Islam Law, Parsi Law and Christian Law prevailing in India considering the differences between these religions` followings.
