Since the ancient period, we have seen that though Indian culture has its own restrictive nature towards man and woman coming together, love marriages have been taking place. However, it was looked upon a taboo to express such feelings from unmarried men and women towards each other. Hence, there always existed a confidant in such cases who arranged for situations when the duo could meet or at least exchange the feelings towards each other. Also these middle men (if we may call them) went along to suggest the alliances to the elders of the families so as to have the union take place.
Even today Indian culture still favors arranged love marriages. Indian culture supports devotion, understanding, acceptance and these are the feelings expressed in every ritual related to marriage. It is believed that parents know the best for their children and they must choose the right match. Families have become more liberal with their children meeting their own matches, hence, it`s possible that men and women now choose an alliance of their own choice and communicate the same to their parents. However, it is still the decision of the parents which dominate the ultimate decision of getting married to the person of choice. So, its arranged love marriage, which means the intending individuals meet alone through different channels, choose each other and then present each other to their respective parents, once the parents approve of the choice only after that the ultimate union takes place. In such cases, how much ever the girl and the boy are willing to marry each other, the parents object, the marriage will not take place. Arranged love marriage is basically a form of arranged marriage with a freedom of choice given to the intending parties, especially the initiation of the choice of a life partner.\\
