Baby Massage
Baby MassageMassage implies skin contact or touch. A massage can calm and soothe your baby. It is a good way to convey to your baby that you love and care for him. Remember that, a nice way to start a massage is with a bath. Ensure that the room is warm, then remove the towel or receiving blanket, and put your baby I on the floor. You may also put him on your lap. Baby lotion and baby oil is not advisable since it soaks into the skin very fast, instead use vegetable oil or corn starch. First put the oil or powder on your palms, then rub your palms together to warm them. Keep talking to your baby all the while or sing a song. Be very gentle during the first month, you can exert more pressure as the baby grows older. Remember to maintain contact with the baby, at least with one hand, until the massage is over. Massaging the baby`s trunk is not advisable if his stomach is full. Be sensitive and accessible to his reactions; discontinue the massage if he is not en-joying himself.

In case the baby enjoys himself, which is most probable, some motions are recommended here for you to try:

  • Stroking with your open palms.

  • Stroking with the thumbs or fingers.

  • Raking" with the tips of the fingers.

  • Tapping lightly with the tips of the fingers.

  • Massaging arms or legs with a wringing motion.

  • By trying out several techniques you will understand which one brings joy to the baby.
