Renaissance or Revival literature is European literature after the Dark Ages initiated by Petrarch. The impact of Renaissance was seen to affect a large part of life and arts like literature, painting, sculpture, music, philosophy, science etc. The printing press encouraged authors to write in local vernacular language rather than Classical, Greek and Latin, widening the reading audience and promoting the spread of Renaissance ideas.
Famous literary authors of Renaissance are Dante (Divine Comedy) Mirandola, Erasmus, Sir Thomas Moore (Utopia) Boccaccio (Decameron), Machiavelli, Castiglione, Cervantes, Cameos and Shakespeare.
Genres
The literary movement produced Latin and vernacular poetry, history, and prose fiction inspired by classical models. A humanistic curriculum dominated grammar schools and expanded its position into almost all of the universities of the time.
