This refers to the poetry written between 3rd century to 7th century and kalidasa is the undisouted master here. He used simple language and simile but later Sanskrit poetry shifted towards stylized literary accents: sophisticated metaphors, stanzas that read the same back and forth.etc.
The greatest poetic works of this period are the five Mahakavyas-
1. Kumarasambhavam by Kalidas
2. Raghuvansham by kalidas
3. Kiratarjuniya by Bharavi
4. Shishupalavadha by Sri Maagha
5. Naishadiyacharitam by Sri Harsha.
Kamasutra (vatsyayan) and Banabhata`s Kadambari are other well known works.
