How you treat your feet is of great importance, especially when you are engaged in work like gardening. Treat your feet to a great gardening shoe - without pinching your wallet. A gardener cannot do without his shoes, just as he cannot do without his tools. To ensure that you have the right shoes for the right job, here are some tips.
You have to admit that gardening shoes are not going to be the most stylish footwear you want to possess; but if you want to keep the rest of your shoes and boots from being ruined, you had better invest in a pair of good gardening clogs or shoes.
1. They should be easy to slip on and off. This will ensure that you actually put them on whenever you need to.
2. It is essential that they be made from rubber or some other waterproof material.
3. Don`t get anything too flimsy or too heavy. They should not hamper movement. While flip- flops or shoes which you are about to throw away seem like a good idea, be wary because branches, thorns and prickly bushes may injure your feet.
4. You might want to go in for heavy gardening boots if you are working on moist land.
The cheerful Ladybug Shoes available in most shops are 100 percent waterproof for drizzly days in the garden, with a serious lug tread for a secure grip on wet, slippery ground. Their low backs make them easy to slip on and off, and they have a soft, removable insole.
The Scrub Boot goes beyond waterproof by offering slipper-soft comfort, easy on/off convenience and total protection in wet and muddy conditions. The natural rubber sole and base are completely resistant to household cleansers, fertilizers and grass stains. A great boot for those everyday really dirty jobs.
Whether it`s a sweltering 85º afternoon or a frosty 30º morning, you`ll be equally comfortable in these innovative garden shoes, thanks to a breathable "airmesh" fabric. Natural rubber outers make them 100% waterproof, and deep treads grip on wet surfaces. Snug but forgiving elastic collar keeps out dirt and ensures a good fit, and Fiber Tek insoles support your arches.
This is a well-built, comfortable and supportive walking shoe you can slip on and off without a struggle. Waterproof suede outer and a polyurethane insole keep your feet dry and warm. The women`s version features a nylon strap and velcro closure; the men`s version has two velcro closures. The natural rubber sole won`t crack and really grabs slick or rough terrain. Nubuck overlays at the toe and heel resist scuffs.
You should take note of the following factors when choosing gardening shoes. They should be :
Durable and great for year-round use!
Make life a little easier with slip on shoes
Sizing note: The women`s sizes run small; if you wear a half-size, choose the next full size up

The primary purpose of a gardening shoe is to protect your feet and at the same time give you flexibility of movement. While buying them, you must keep in mind the above factors. But buying and wearing the shoe is not the end; to ensure that your shoes last your money`s worth they must be cleaned at least once a week. Gardening shoes are really the easiest to maintain because all you have to do is run them under water. A good spray will wash off all the mud and a little sunshine will dry them up leaving you brand new and clean sparkling shoes.
